Arrival and Preparation

Upon arrival at our clinic, our team will be guiding you through the before operative steps. Anaesthetic eye drops will be applied to numb your eyes and you will be given a mild sedative to make you stay calm during the procedure.

Step 1 β€” Incision

The surgeon creates a tiny incision in your eye with a laser.

Step 2 β€” Lens Removal

The natural lens is gently broken into small pieces using ultrasound waves (phacoemulsification) and then removed.

Step 3 β€” IOL Implantation

The artificial lens (IOL) is inserted through the same incision and positioned within the lens capsule.

Step 4 β€” Closure

The incision is usually self-sealing and does not require stitches.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How long does lens replacement surgery take?

Typically 15-30 minutes per eye.

Is lens replacement surgery painful?

The procedure is painless with local anaesthetic and sedation.

What's the difference between lens replacement and cataract surgery?

The surgical technique is identical, but RLE replaces a clear lens whilst cataract surgery removes a cloudy one.

When can I return to normal activities?

Β Most patients resume light activities within a few days and full activities within 2-4 weeks.

Will I need glasses after lens replacement surgery?

This depends on the IOL chosen. Premium multifocal or EDOF lenses significantly reduce glasses dependency, whilst monofocal lenses typically require reading glasses.

Can both eyes be treated on the same day?

Typically, we perform surgery on one eye at a time, with 1-2 weeks between procedures for safety.
